How to prepare a logo for print using Vectalyze
Print vendors almost always need EPS or PDF. We walk through uploading a PNG logo, dialing in trace settings, and exporting a print-ready file.
How to Prepare a Logo for Print Using Vectalyze
Print vendors — sign shops, embroidery services, offset printers — almost universally require vector files. If you only have a PNG, here's how to convert it to a print-ready EPS or PDF in under two minutes.
What you'll need
- Your logo as a PNG or JPG, ideally on a white or transparent background
- A free Vectalyze account
- About two minutes
Step 1: Upload your image
Go to [vectalyze.io/convert](/convert) and drop your logo onto the upload area. Vectalyze accepts PNG, JPG, BMP, WebP, and TIFF.
Tip: A logo on a white background traces better than one on a coloured or transparent background. If your PNG has transparency, fill the background white first.
Step 2: Choose EPS or PDF
In the Output Format panel on the right, select EPS for most print vendors, or PDF if the vendor specifically asked for it. Both formats produce mathematically identical vector paths — the difference is the file wrapper.
Step 3: Adjust trace settings
Open Trace Settings and adjust if needed:
- Threshold: If the logo looks washed out, lower it. If it looks filled with noise, raise it.
- Turd size: Increase this if you're seeing small dots or speckles in the output.
- Smooth: Higher values produce smoother curves; lower values preserve sharp corners.
Step 4: Convert and download
Click Convert to EPS (or PDF). The conversion runs in a few seconds. Download the result.
Step 5: Check before sending
Open the EPS in Illustrator or Inkscape and verify:
- The paths are clean — no gaps, no extra blobs
- The logo fills the artboard cleanly
- All text has been converted to outlines (if applicable)
Free tier limits
The free tier supports files up to 5 MB and outputs at up to 800px. For large format print work, upgrade to Pro for unlimited resolution.
